Inspired by the edited versions of 80s popsongs from Duran Duran, Brian Ferry, Level 42 etcetera, I decided to cut-up Let’s Dance from David Bowie into a radio version with digital tape edits. I only used Sony’s Soundforge this time, to get the real tape editing feel.

Last week I finished my latest edited dub mix. When listening to ‘Empire State of Mind’ of Jay-Z f./ Alicia Keys on the radio for the first time I thought it would be great to make a cut up dub from this song. I almost immediately heard Alicia’s cut up vox in my mind. I just love edits at downtempo (I guess you can call 90BPM downtempo, can ya?). The result is so much cleaner that cuts at 135BP). Unzip and check out my razorblade edited dub version of Jay-Z f./ Alicia Keys-Empire State of Mind.

My first encounter with this song, btw, was in the February Summerstreet mix by JTHZ in the late 80’s. Talkin’ bout multi editing!
